IN MY WORK WITH CLIENTS LIVING WITH chRonic illnEss,

I help people calibrate their career, and/or their lifestyle habits to better support their health and wellbeing. Living with chronic illness often means navigating transitions driven by the shift in capacity for many aspects of life. We’ll work together to better understand what needs to change and then take steps to make the necessary adjustments.

For clients navigating a caReer Transition, we will:

  • Determine your values and strengths, and identify key aspects of your work history.

  • Examine your current capacity for work - how much time and energy you have to devote to your career - and explore what modifications need to be made as you take the next steps.

  • Explore what, if any, disclosure about your health status you want to share as you move forward

  • Work through limiting beliefs that may be getting in the way. Beliefs such as - I have nothing to offer now that I can't work as much as I used to, no one will want to work with me or hire me, or my best days are behind me - can hold you back from making the most of the skills and capacity you do have. They also limit your ability to see an abundant future for yourself.

  • Determine how you want to frame the transition in your career

For clients Modifying their lifestylE habits and routinEs, we will:

  • Identify your values.

  • Inventory your current habits and routines to identify what’s working and what’s not.

  • Discuss recommendations from your healthcare team and explore how to integrate them, if applicable.

  • Examine areas of stress and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Identify two-to-three changes you want to make initially and develop a plan (a gentle and flexible plan) to execute them.

  • Interrogate limiting beliefs that might prevent you from making the changes you’ve prioritized. Beliefs such as - there’s nothing I can do about the stress in my life, changing my diet is too hard and I’ve failed when I tried to do it in the past, or I only have 20 minutes to exercise most days and that’s not enough time - prevent you from taking important steps to tend your health and wellbeing. We’ll work through them so that you can take the necessary steps to care for yourself.

  • Meet regularly to check in on progress, make adjustments as needed, and to identify (and take!) next steps.

  • Ongoing support is available if desired.

The Root of It is the writing of one woman in midlife sorting through it. Frequent topics include: chronic illness, loss, grief, menopause, neurodivergence, and other random, not-so-heavy shit. Think of reading this newsletter as a conversation with a good friend. Together we'll learn, deepen our understanding of ourselves, and *just maybe* gain a little bit of clarity.
